Commodore Amiga 2000

A ready to roll A2000. Its specs are
* rev 6.3 motherboard
* WB ROM 3.1
* 8375 Fat Agnus, I believe this is the 1MB version not the 2MB
* the strongest power supply I've ever seen in an A2000
* all (4) cork feet in great shape
* NEW Gotek drive with Flash Floppy v3.41 installed
* USB with random utilities, games, OS
* NEW recapped over Thanksgiving holiday
* NEW coin cell adapter and battery added
* NEW screws throughout
* Retroninja serial number RN2311065
* includes the A2000 and the Gotek USB

This A2000 landed in my hands and needed some work. It would mostly boot fine while other times you had to cycle power or keyboard reset a half dozen times to get it to boot. There was also like 7 screws holding everything together instead of the normal 40ish. Of those, less than half were actually correct screws - wrong machine screws, wood (!) screws. There are new motherboard screws, power tray screws, slot screws, and case screws installed.

I totally disassembled the box and washed the insides and outsides. My thinking was that difficulty booting would be tied to CPU or boot ROM or power (in this case). The boot ROM was pulled and deoxit'd since it was a kinda green. The CPU socket was replaced at some point in the past. It was crazy dirty under there and I had suspicions about whether the solder joints were up to snuff. More cleaning was performed. I reflowed the CPU socket's solder joints. In for a penny, in for a pound. Next I pulled all capacitors off the motherboard and replaced them with new Panasonic caps. The Varta battery was also pulled in its past. There is very little damage from battery leakage. Since I recapped it I also added a new coin cell battery. Have you ever recapped? Between the original cleaning and the flux residue from the recap the board was washed a half dozen times with alcohol and distilled water.

The power supply is a bit of an odd bird. Like all Amiga 2000s the fan is a bit noisy. You could swap it out with a modern Noctura or magnetic bearing fan but I decided to leave it in. Mainly because it moves more air than I've ever seen of any A2000. The inside of the power supply was air-cleaned. Other oddities - it's also rated at 220W whereas normally they are 200W, the ps case is also polished metal. If you are looking for unique, this power supply fits the bill.

The floppy drive is bad. It does recognize disk inserts but fails to read them. It sounds rough when it accesses a disk. It's still there in case A) you want to try to repair it and B) to fill a case hole.

It still needs a little loving to make it yours - slot covers are missing, can you find a working FDD?, plug that 5.25 hole, adding a memory card or an accelerator would speed things up.
